Earth formed about 4.6 billion years ago from a solar nebula, along with the rest of our solar system. It grew through the accretion of nebular material that ranged in size from space dust to planetesimals (minute planets). In its earliest stages, our planet looked and behaved much differently than the majestic blue and green planet we know today. Since the Hadean, Earth has experienced many events (Figure \(\PageIndex{1}\)) that have allowed life as we know it to evolve.
