- Pangaea came together and broke up during the Triassic.
- For most of the Mesozoic, the western margin of North America was tectonically active, while the eastern margin remained passive. Mountain building happened during four orgonenic events, building up the North American Cordilleran, which includes mountain ranges like the Rockies.
- In the Cretaceous, sea levels rose, and North America was separated into two landmasses by a shallow seaway, where sediment accumulated.
- As Pangea assembled and the climate dried out, amphibians evolved into a group called amniotes, some of which were able to lay waterproof eggs on land.
- Amniotes were broken into the synapsids which would eventually become mammals and the sauropsids containing modern reptiles, birds, and dinosaurs.
- Dinosaurs first appeared and became extinct in the Mesozoic Era. They are divided into groups based on their hips as either "bird-hipped" in which the pubis and the ischium are close together or "lizard-hipped" in which the pubis and the ischium are far apart.
- The end of the Triassic Period was marked by a mass extinction perhaps caused by the Central Atlantic Magmatic Province flood basalt that helped spur the evolution of survivors like mammals, pterosaurs (flying reptiles), ichthyosaurs/plesiosaurs/mosasaurs (marine reptiles), and dinosaurs
- The Mesozoic Era ended 66 million years ago when 75% of species died out during the K-Pg mass extinction event caused, at least in part, by the impact of a large asteroid, meteoroid, or comet and the prolonged and vigorous volcanic activity of the Deccan Traps.
