    Chapter 1: Exercises

    1. A city like Denver, Colorado (elevation 5,280 ft) will always have a surface pressure lower than Los Angeles, California (elevation of approximately 305 ft in downtown). Why?
    2. Carbon Dioxide currently accounts for only 0.042% of the atmosphere (up from 0.038% in Figure 1.1.1). So why do we care so much about it?
    3. What is one key feature of each layer of the atmosphere?
    4. Of the following statements below, which ones represent Weather and which represent Climate?
      1. Hurricanes are common in Florida, but not in California?
      2. A tornado just moved through downtown Oklahoma City
      3. The average temperature in San Jose, California, is 84°F in July.
      4. Winters in Minneapolis, Minnesota, are very cold.
      5. It was windy last night.
